Hi Bob, it's William again. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk posted on his website last night:

"Sal Paolantonio of ESPN told Jon Kincade of ESPN Radio on Sunday that coach Andy Reid could bench Vick for Kolb, if Vick struggles in the wild-card game.

Paolantonio said that the ESPN NFL Matchup crew noticed that Vick isn’t recognizing blitzes, and that Reid twice let Vick know about it during Tuesday night’s loss to the Vikings."

Given the way Kolb played against the Cowboys, I really don't see Reid benching Vick. But the post raises a couple questions I'm hoping you can answer. Is the pass rush problem that the Eagles have due to a weak offensive line, or Vick's inability to pick up blitzes? Is it both? Also, can you explain what a "hot read" is? Thanks!

Don't count on Vick being benched, William. We don't need the whatever matchup crew to realize Vick is having trouble getting the ball out against blitzes. Like a lot of quarterbacks he holds it too long to try to make the perfect play. That will change this week against the Packers.
Replacing Vick with Kolb for any issue but injury is a pretty ridiculous proposition. Wonder if Sal Pal still feels that way after watching Kolb Sunday. Thanks for the note, Will.

Almost forgot the 'hot read.' That would be the receiver closest to where the blitz is coming from. For example, if DJax is lined up slot right and a corner comes off that edge, DJax is the hot read. It's up to him to give Vick help by breaking off his route and getting to the ball. That's generally the way it works.
