Eagles found a winner in Trent Edwards

Edwards, Foles and Vick.
Remember the mini-controversy when the Eagles cut Mike Kafka, who showed promise at quarterback, instead of veteran Trent Edwards?

It's got to be one of the best moves they've made. Read about Edwards' influence on rookie third-round pick Nick Foles here.

While Kafka was a team guy, he just didn't have what Edwards has - five years of NFL experience. Edwards is as competitive yet non-threatening as a backup quarterback can be. And that's accelerated the progress of Foles, who Edwards thinks is special. The jury is out on that one, of course.

It would have been really interesting to see if Edwards could have won games for the Eagles when Michael Vick was sidelined by a concussion. We'll never know.

But Edwards almost certainly has opened eyes around the league helping groom Foles. And that should be worth a paycheck on some level.
