Eagles add a Howard Mudd guy

The Eagles made it clear Sunday that claiming guard Kyle DeVan off waivers from the Colts, where he was developed by veteran line coach Howard Mudd, was merely to add depth to the roster.

Eagles offensive linemen should be forewarned.

DeVan started 12 of 16 games at left guard last year with the Colts, who, in the post-Mudd era have decided to get a lot bigger up front. Evan Mathis currently is the starter on that side for the Eagles.

In 2009 the 26-year-old DeVan started the final nine regular season games and all three postseason contests at right guard, including Super Bowl XLIV. Rookie Danny Watkins is starting at right guard for the Eagles.

DeVan (6-2, 306) has 21 regular season starts for the Colts from 2009-10.

Mudd coached the Colts O-line from 1998-2009.
