Caliendo nailed sketch of ESPN's Jon Gruden

Comedian Frank Caliendo does a lot of impressions well.

One of the more enduring sketches is Jon Gruden, the Super Bowl winning coach turned ESPN Monday Night Football analyst.

Jon Gruden's younger brother Jay, the coach of Washington, was asked to share his thoughts on Caliendo's sketches. Jay gives Caliendo a thumbs up.

"He’s pretty good at it," Jay Gruden said on a conference call. "I’ve seen it a few times and he does a good job especially with his facial expressions and all that. (Caliendo) actually was in West Virginia and my middle son got a chance to meet him and got his picture taken with him. He does a good job."

So, you could say, do the Grudens.

A 12 percent chance Eagles reach playoffs

Statistically the Eagles have their backs to the wall.
Great idea went to waste Sunday.

The Eagles are 0-2. A shade less than 12 percent of teams that started 0-2 have reached the postseason since 1990 according to CBS Sports research.

The Eagles last started 0-2 in 2007. They finished 8-8 and among the 88 percent who failed to reach the playoffs.

In 2003 the Eagles started 0-2 yet rallied to win the division. They lost in the second round of the playoffs.

The Eagles also started 0-2 in both 1998 and 1999 and wound up with losing records.

The Cowboys, who are 2-0. have a 63 percent chance of making the playoffs based on the same sample size.

The Cowboys, however, will be without the services of quarterback Tony Romo and Dez Bryant for roughly 6-to-8 weeks.

Eagles scratch Marcus Smith

The Eagles activated running Kenjon Barner, not linebacker Marcus Smith, the 2014 first round draft pick who sat out the 10th of a possible18 games.,

With special teams contributor Seyi Ajirotutu (concussion) unavailable, the Eagles felt it best to roll with Barner, also a special teams producer.

Smith (hamstring) was listed as probable on the injury report but isn't proficient in special teams. In fact, he hurt the hamstring in a special teams practice.

The Eagles also deactivated quarterback Stephen Morris, offensive linemen Julian Vandervelde and Dennis Kelly and defensive end Brandon Bair, who is a solid special teams player.

The Cowboys scratched injured wide receiver Dez Bryant (broken foot) and left guard Ronald Leary (groin).

Cole Beasley started in place of Bryant, Macvkenzy Bernadeau for Leary.

McCoy: "I never called Chip a racist"

In an interview aired Sunday on ESPN, LeSean McCoy denied he called Eagles head coach Chip Kelly a racist for trading him and some other black players.
McCoy in better times ...

Sort of.

To backtrack McCoy implied race was a factor after he was shipped to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso.

McCoy told ESPN The Magazine there was a reason Kelly "got rid of all the black players - the good ones - like that."

McCoy tried to back away from those strong comments Sunday in an interview with Hannah Storm.

“Well that’s how I felt," McCoy said. "And everybody was so quick to say I called him a racist. I never called him a racist. And I have no issue with Chip. I have no hatred towards him."

Kelly said he reached out to McCoy on multiple occasions to discuss the matter but was rebuffed.

McCoy wasn't real clear when asked again by Storm if race was a factor in the trade.

"Uh, I wouldn’t say that," McCoy said. "I think that I wasn’t the player (Kelly) wanted. So no matter if I was black or whatever it is, at the end of the day I’m going to have my own thoughts about it and other people can have their own thoughts. After that comment got all the angry thoughts out I was happy."

With Bryant out, Cowboys still have options

Chip Kelly can only guess how the Dallas Cowboys are going to attack the Eagles this Sunday without superstar receiver Dez Bryant, out with a broken foot.

It beats the alternative.

If the choice is playing the Cowboys with Bryant as opposed to preparing for their NFC East arch-rivals without him, Kelly would take “the latter.

“He’s really good,” Kelly said of Bryant, the media tent bursting into laughter. “So, put a little bit more on the coaches and a little bit less on covering Dez, I think we’d opt for that.”

The Cowboys have options without Bryant, who likely will be sidelined four to six weeks after undergoing surgery.

Tight end Jason Witten (6-6, 251), wide receivers Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley, along with tight end Gavin Esobar (6-6, 254) are at the disposal of quarterback Tony Romo.

In Kelly’s mind, Romo is the key.

“One of the best quarterbacks in the league running the show,” Kelly said. “What a dynamic football player Dez is but it’s not like there’s a huge discrepancy. The key to that offense is the quarterback.”
