The intense Eagles influence on the Browns makes for a strange season opener this Sunday in Cleveland.

Sheldon Brown ... back in the day.

Browns cornerback Sheldon Brown  was a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2002 who was traded after eight seasons . He's played in 160 straight games, sixth among all defensive players.

Defensive end Juqua  Parker  spent seven seasons with the Eagles ending in 2011, cornerback Dimitri Patterson  two years through 2010 and tight end Alex Smith spent the 2009 season with the club.

Browns punter  Reggie Hodges appeared in three games with the Eagles in 2005, wide receiver Jordan  Norwood  (Penn State) was on  the Eagles’ practice squad in 2009,

Head coach Pat Shurmur, who guided the Browns to a 4-12 mark last season, coached on Andy Reid's staff  from 1999-2008, the last seven years as quarterbacks coach.

Browns offensive coordinator Brad  Childress spent seven seasons with the Eagles, including four as offensive coordinator. He exited to become head coach of the Vikings after the 2005 .

Defensive backs coach Tim Hauck played for the Eagles from 1999-200.

Browns general manager  Tom Heckert worked for the Eagles from 2001-09, the last four years as general manager.

Browns senior assistant-defensive coach Ray  Rhodes twice led the Eagles to the playoffs in four years with the team ending in 1998. Defensive coordinator  Dick Jauron was secondary coach with the Eagles in 2010, quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple an offensive assistant in 2008.

Browns director of player personnel Jon Sandusky spent nine seasons on the Eagles’ personnel staff (2001-09).

Browns director of college scouting John Spytek spent five seasons in personnel with the Eagles (2005-09).

Steve Johnson signs with Broncos.

Steven Johnson wasn't among the 253 players drafted the last three days.

But Johnson was encouraged enough by the interest shown by the Denver Broncos he signed a contract with them.

In a week Johnson reports to the team's rookie camp. Until then the Kansas University linebacker can catch up on old times with Chris Harris, his former Jayhawks teammate who made the Broncos as an undrafted nickel cornerback.

"It's a good situation," Johnson said. "At the same time I wanted to get drafted. It's nothing that I  haven't worked through before. Now I'll have to do it again."

Johnson (6-0, 239) walked on at Kansas,  eventually earning a scholarship. Last year he led the Big 12 Conference with 120 tackles. Six stops were for a loss. Johnson also picked off a pass.

Dawkins ... when Eagles were winning playoff games.

Brian Dawkins announced his retirement Monday on Twitter (@BrianDawkins).

Makes sense. The man loathed formal press conferences.

But he will do one later this week.

And at that time, Dawkins will confirm what he and his agent have discussed with the Eagles in recent weeks ... he will retire an Eagle, not a Bronco, whose  uniform he finished his 16-year career in. Dawkins is leaning heavily in that direction according to a source.

All Dawkins must do is take care of the retirement paperwork, including any related medical issues, and sign a one-day contract with the Eagles.

The Eagles plan to honor Dawkins at a game this season.

The 38-year-old Dawkins had 37 career interceptions.
