The Eagles signed Andrew Brewer to replace wide receiver Ron Johnson, who dislocated and fractured an ankle Monday.

Johnson was waived-injured. The USC product had surgery Tuesday to put the ankle that popped badly out of line back into place.

Brewer (6-3, 215) played two seasons in the United Football League with the Omaha Nighthawks, where he was acquired by Rick Mueller, now in player personnel with the Eagles.

At Northwestern Brewer switched from quarterback to wide receiver finishing with 76 receptions for 1,118 yards and nine touchdowns.

In 2009 Brewer set a school single-season record averaging 16.2 yards per catch with 57 receptions for 925 yards. Brewer caught nine of Kafka''s 16 touchdown passes that year.

Eagles veteran defensive tackle Mike Patterson won't be playing football for a while because   the skull bone cut to remove an AVR, or irregular tangle of blood vessels hasn't healed sufficiently.

But Patterson has no issues with the way Michael Vick suggested the Eagles have all of the ingredients necessary to become "a dynasty.

"I support him on that," Patterson said. "I feel like he’s been in this league and he knows how it is to feel you have a good team. We all feel we have something special here and we can do something good.

"I think it’s going to be a real good thing for us. We have a really good opportunity. We’ve got a lot of good guys here. I think we can do a lot of good things here. That’s how we’re all looking at it. That’s the mindset that we have. It will be exciting to see what we can do."

All of that said I'm reminded of telling research supplied NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock.

In the last eight drafts, 23 quarterbacks have been selected in the first round. Fifteen are starters.

In the last eight drafts, 82 quarterbacks were drafted in rounds 2 through 7. Only seven have become starters.

Statistically there's less than a 9 percent chance Foles is the Eagles' future starting quarterback.
